Holy Ground Community Church

New Here?

Curtis E. Doakes was born the third of ten children from the union of the late Curtis and Earline Doakes of Bonita, Louisiana.

He was baptized in June of 1961, at Mt. Olive MBC and met Annie Thornton, at the youthful age of five in Bastrop, Louisiana where they both lived.  Their friendship grew and began to develop but was interrupted by Bishop’s call to the United States Army on tours in South Korea and Vietnam.   In the armed services he specialized in Maintenance Engineering with an emphasis in Mechanics.

He later returned to the states, moved to Portland, Oregon, accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior and in 1969 married the love of his life, Miss. Annie Rose Thornton.  Their union brought forth four beautiful children: Sherrie, Curtis III, Valarie and Micah DeWayne:  The Doakes Legacy.

Bishop Doakes then served in numerous ministerial capacities:  Sunday school teacher, superintendent, transportation operations overseer, brotherhood president, and led various ministerial auxiliaries. After serving and assisting in the Full Gospel Pentecostal Association for over two decades, in 1999 he was consummated Bishop under Bishop A. A. Wells, Portland, OR.

An educator and proponent of academic development, Bishop Doakes earned his Bachelor’s in Theology, (Th. B); Masters in Theology (Th. M); Doctorate of Ministries (D. Min.) and Doctorate in Philosophy (PH. D.)

Assisted by his wife, Pastor Annie Rose Thornton-Doakes, Bishop Doakes founded, built and has pastored Holy Ground Community Church of Seattle, Washington for over two decades.  Bishop is a stalwart commander of the word of God and he is recognized by both Christian and secular groups for his renaissance style and controversial views

As a family man first as he is often quoted, he enjoys spending time with his grand-children, great grand-children and rooting for the Los Angeles Lakers.  He is also the published author of Because The Preacher Was Wise Volume I & II and is a self-taught culinary chef.   In 2000 he established opened Doakes’ Louisiana Style BBQ Restaurant

Bishop Doakes continues to up-lift the Kingdom of God as a  national ministerial consultant, real estate developer, and entrepreneur.  He is a man of vision and action with his life’s motto being: “…He that rule over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.” 2 Samuel 23:3

He believes the church should be a place “Where the whole family can go and where the whole family can grow.” This is at the heart of his desire and a mandate of God for his ministry
